International Relations Office

The International Relations Office is Bayan's point of contact with institutions outside Iraq, and the office a student or a member of staff comes to when what they need crosses a border.

For students

• Exchange and study-abroad calls: what is open, who may apply, how to apply, and the learning agreement that fixes in advance what your courses abroad will count for here
• Advice on what a foreign university, embassy or employer will ask you for — transcript, attested certificate, letter of enrolment, syllabus description — and which office issues each of them
• Guidance for applicants from outside Iraq on entry and residence formalities, alongside whatever the admissions office needs from them academically
• Practical support for international students already enrolled, including the letters that residence and banking formalities require

The office does not decide admission and does not issue academic documents. What it does is tell you which office does, and what to bring when you go there.

For academic and administrative staff

• Invitation letters and the paperwork behind attending a conference or a meeting abroad
• Visiting appointments in both directions — hosting an academic here, or arranging your own visit elsewhere
• Introductions, where a department wants a counterpart abroad and does not yet have one
• Help preparing a submission to an external call: reading the eligibility rules properly, assembling the institutional annexes, and checking the external deadline against the university's own approval steps

For visiting institutions

Delegations, campus visits and first approaches all come here, as do proposals for a memorandum of understanding. The office checks the proposal, puts it to the department it concerns, and carries it through the university's approvals. What to expect

Bring the question early. Almost everything this office handles contains at least one step that belongs to somebody else — an embassy, a ministry, a host institution, an approval inside the university — and those steps keep their own pace, not yours. A request arriving a week before departure usually cannot be rescued. The same request a semester ahead usually can.
